Optical triggers of protein folding
Article Abstract:
A technique is described that uses photoinduced electron transfer reaction to elicit folding of the reduced cytochrome c. The method, which exploits the stability difference between oxidized and reduced proteins, can be used to observe events that occur in nanoseconds and microseconds.

The biophysics of sickle cell hydroxyurea therapy
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that hydroxyurea effectively treats adult sickle cell anemia patients by increasing the fraction of red blood cells containing fetal hemoglobin. The biophysical mechanism involved in inhibiting polymerization in F cells is discussed.

Nanosecond crystallographic snapshots of protein structural changes
Article Abstract:
Researchers have used time-resolved x-ray crystallography to take nanosecond long images of the changes in the structure of a protein in response to ligand dissociation and rebinding. The new technology provides atomic detail of protein function.
