Other countries' money
Article Abstract:
Investments made by foreign corporations in R&D activities in the US shot up to $17 billion in 1995 from $700 million in 1987. The money was spent by these companies to gain access to the expertise of American scientists and engineers in their quest to produce products in the US. However, critics say these investments are nothing but a pretense to find out the latest in US R&D activities. It cannot be argued, however, that these companies are also providing jobs for US scientists and engineers. New discoveries also contribute to the advancement of science and technology in the US.

Total quality management and cultural change: a model of organizational development
Article Abstract:
A sequential model was formulated to illustrate ways of adopting total quality management (TQM). The model differentiates seven steps into three classifiable sequential approaches, namely the technical stage, the human stage and the strategical stage. The model shows that adoption of TQM entails a modification in the culture, such as members' attitudes and behavior, of an organization.
