The House Science Committee voted against the Energy Dept's request for $35 million to help build Europe's Large Hadron Collider. The panel also postponed a $100-million plan to build a research-oriented successor to the Internet, but gave generous appropriations to science-related agencies.

Brookhaven prepares for boron trials
Article Abstract:
Brookhaven expects FDA approval to treat 28 terminal brain cancer patients with a treatment that uses a boron compound that concentrates in the tumor. Officials plan to use a lottery to ration the treatment but are bracing for political interference in the selection procedure.
