Shedding light on blindness
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that the protein vascular endothelial growth factor may be the 'factor X' that causes diabetics and premature infants to develop proliferative retinopathy. Oxygen deprivation in the retina causes the abnormal blood vessel growth that results in blindness.

Many grant writers are concerned that an arbitrators ruling may require a fundamental change in common grant-writing practices. The arbitrator found that CSF cardiologist Joseph Abbott committed plagiarism when he reused text from a similar earlier grant proposal.
