Penn Station redevelopment moves above ground
Article Abstract:
A portion of the James A. Farley Post Office building in New York City, NY, will be converted into an intermodal transportation center as part of the Pennsylvania Station redevelopment project. The two-story building, which was opened in 1914, is located above Penn Station's western tracks. To be built at a cost of $484 million, the redevelopment plan also calls for the construction of a glass-covered train hall and connections to rail lines. Once completed, passenger traffic is expected to increase by 30% at the busiest train station in the US.

Article Abstract:
The US Army Corps of Engineers developed a new grouting technique in preparing the foundation of the Portugues Dam in Ponce, Puerto Rico. The novel procedure improves the foundation and reduces the seepage through the fractured rock that serves as the dam's foundation. The grouting technique also ensures that the foundation could withstand the loads transferred through the curved, thin-arch structure of the dam. Once built, the Portugues Dam will store 12,325 acre-ft of water in the reservoirs.
