Photosynthesis of overwintering evergreen plants
Article Abstract:
The photosynthetic behavior of overwintering evergreens, with an emphasis on both the acclimative responses of photosynthesis to cold and the winter behavior of photosynthesis in conifers is reviewed. Photosynthetic acclimation is also discussed in terms of the requirement for a balance between the energy absorbed through largely temperature-insensitive photochemical processes and the energy used for temperature-sensitive biochemical processes and growth.

Calcium oxalate in plants: Formation and function
Article Abstract:
Calcium oxalate (CaOx) crystals are distributed among all taxonomic levels of photosynthetic organisms from small algae to angiospers and giant gymnosperms. The main functions of CaOx crystal formation in plants include high-capacity calcium, regulation and protection against herbivory.

Remembering winter: Toward a molecular understanding of vernalization
Article Abstract:
Vernalization is the process by which exposure to cold promotes flowering. It is demonstrated that covalent modification of histones in the chromatin of target loci are part of the molecular mechanism by which certain repressors are silenced during vernalization.
