Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans: gas-phase hydroxyl radical reactions and related atmospheric removal
Article Abstract:
Gas-phase and particle-phase removal reactions govern the atmospheric removal of dioxins and furans. In an analysis of the rate constants for gas-phase hydroxyl radical reactions involving polychlorinated dibenzofurans and dibenzo-p-dioxins, it appears that dioxins and furans with lower numbers of chlorine atoms are more likely to be influenced by gas-phase removal processes. Additionally, furans and dioxins with higher numbers of chlorine atoms are more likely to be influenced by particle-phase removal processes.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon accumulation in urban, suburban, and rural vegetation
Article Abstract:
Four percent of the total polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) emitted in urban, suburban, and rural areas are accumulated in each area's vegetation when PAH partitions from the atmosphere to vegetation, soil, water, and sediment, according to estimates from the results of a 1995 research. The research, which showed that urban samples have 10 times higher PAH burdens than rural samples, confirmed that atmospheric PAH burdens on vegetation were higher near areas where atmospheric PAH are concentrated.
