Publicity fears cancel gene talk

The journal 'Cell' persuaded James German to cancel the presentation of his team's research on the gene believed to cause Bloom's syndrome, a condition whose victims develop many malignancies. Many journals and scientists believe that pre-publication publicity can make findings seem less noteworthy.

Cause of fatal outbreak in horses and humans traced
Article Abstract:
An Australian research team has identified the fatal virus that affected both horses and humans with a mysterious disease. The previously unknown virus, equine meorbillivirus, is believed to have a native Australian animal as its natural host, but the host has not yet been identified.
