Quantum claustrophobia
Article Abstract:
Physicists have created atomic 'Fermi degenerate' matter in an ultracold gas 0.3 microkelvins above absolute zero. The behavior of fermions at cold temperatures plays an important role in the electrical properties of semiconductors and metals and in the stability of white dwarf and neutron stars.

The next big chill: physicist close in on a new state of matter
Article Abstract:
Several research groups are in race to recreate a superficial state of matter in the laboratory. This superfluid state involves a broad range of quantum particles called fermions, which acts like a superconductor that allows resistanceless flow of electricity.
