Article Abstract:
The coelution of peroxyacetyl nitrate (PAN) and (peroxyisobutyryl nitrate) will not have a very significant impact on measurements of PAN. Studies show that when PAN and PIBN coelute, the positive bias which can be attributed to PiBN is very small. The coelution of both compounds, therefore, has little significance on the study and will hardly affect the findings that the reaction between isobutanal and OH occurs by H-atom abstraction from the carbon in the carbonyl and that the reaction between OH and 3-methyl-1 butene occurs by addition on the carbon-carbon bond.

Comment on 'An Analytical Minimum Level Definition for Analytical Quantification'
Article Abstract:
The contention of Gibbons and colleagues regarding the production of a wide range of reporting limits from from statistical procedures based solely on standard deviations are correct but failed to take into account the data quality objectives of the user. The use of statistical procedures based solely on standard deviations is correct in cases where risk assesment is done, since the quality control of the statistical procedure is enough to quality the parameters of risks.

Article Abstract:
Studies on the issue of reporting either detection or quantitation limits should focus on finding the minutest quantity which meets the project's data quality and technical feasibility criteria, rather than on determining the smallest quantity of analyte detected. This implies that in the development of alternatives to the EPA's method detection limit, emphasis should be concentrated on experimental investigation, not on statistical theory.
