Results from the Lake Michigan mass balance study: concentrations and fluxes of atmospheric polychlorinated biphenyls and trans-nonachlor
Article Abstract:
This study, initiated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Great Lakes National Program Office, describes the contamination of Lake Michigan from polychlorinated biphenyls and trans-nonachlor. Four-hundred shoreline samples are graphed according to chemical levels and month of collection. Sources of pollution are discussed, as well as the apparent seasonality of contamination.

A comparison of PAH, PCB, and pesticide concentrations in air at two rural sites on Lake Superior
Article Abstract:
Two sites studied in the Integrated Atmospheric Deposition Network (IADN), one at Brule River and the other at Eagle Harbor, are compared for levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), pesticides, and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). Brule River's close proximity to Duluth, Minnesota is described as a factor for elevated PAH concentrations as compared to contamination levels at Eagle Harbor.

Meeting data quality objectives with interval information
Article Abstract:
A method for measuring analyte concentrations with interval-based field-test kits is statistically described, following the Data Quality Objectives process used to characterize and clean up waste sites. Graphs show the confidence intervals for sample sizes, and the criteria for assigning pollution levels.
