Seattle's Kingdome receives rigorous seismic study
Article Abstract:
The Kingdome, a multipurpose domed stadium in Seattle, WA, requires seismic improvements to survive earthquakes. More than 100 computer-simulation tests were conducted to analyze the effect of earthquake on the structure of the stadium. Planners from King County, WA, are developing a 10-year seismic retrofit plan to make the improvements to the stadium's structure. Some portions of the Kingdome, such as the interior columns, grandstand columns, joints, and beams, will need retrofitting.
