The burdened area as a structural indicator of interface bonding strength
Article Abstract:
The bonding strength of different structural materials is dependent on the bulk of materials used. Bonding failures between two dissimilar structural materials occur in the burdened area of the intrinsic material interface. Such bonding failures can be attributed to weak intrinsic interface adhesion and to structural parameters and mechanical properties of these materials such as elastic modulus, layer thickness, slanting angle and corner radius.

Strength prediction of RTM single-lap joints with transverse stitching
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to predict the strength of Resin Transfer Moulding-manufactured composite single-lap joints with and without transverse stitching. The energy release rates of modes I and II at an overlap end was calculated using simple methods. An interacting mixed-mode based failure criterion was used to determine the single-lap joint strengths. The predicted results were found to correlate well with experimental results.
