Strategic alliances between large and small high-tech firms (the small firm licensing option)
Article Abstract:
The smaller high-tech firm acting as the licensor has advantages of gaining the ability to capitalize on innovation and creating standard designs in the initial stages of marketing. Learning, discovering and accessing new skills, technologies, resources and knowledge; establishing a control pace of the industry; and protection from the legality of the agreement are also emphasized. Disadvantages, however, exist including the creation of new competitors, the dependence on the firm/s it has given rights to, and the shift to subcontracting out and downgrading complimentary core competencies.
