Stretching single protein molecules: titin is a weird spring
Article Abstract:
Three research teams stretched the titin molecule, a giant protein involved in striated muscle contraction, to study the elastic forces generated during stretching and relaxation. The unraveling of immunoglobulin domains revealed a strange mixture of unusual reactions.

GAP into the breach
Article Abstract:
GTPase-activating proteins stimulate the reaction that inactivates GTPase Ras, part of the signaling pathway controlling cell growth. Research on the crystal structure of the complex between Ras and a fragment of p120GAP provides insights into the function of GAPs.
