Structure of gene-tag protein solved
Article Abstract:
Green fluorescent protein (GFP), taken from the Pacific Northwest jellyfish, has been used as a fluorescent marker in molecular biology studies. Recent discoveries of the structure of normal and mutant GFP may allow researchers to alter the protein, such as making new colors for multi-marker studies.

Mammalian cytochrome c oxidase, a molecular monster subdued
Article Abstract:
Researchers have analyzed the complete structure of bovine cytochrome c oxidase at 2.8 angstroms. The enzyme has 13 separate subunits and a molecular weight of 200,000, making it the most complex membrane protein to be analyzed at high resolution.
