Article Abstract:
It is predicted that the engineering industry will see a growth in job opportunities mainly from small and medium size firms. However, the growth in the industry will require a workforce with higher levels of knowledge and skills than before. A key aspect of success for employees in the engineering industry is flexibility as required by the rapid pace of technological advancement. The industry will require people who have qualities and skills that include adaptability, willingness to retrain and ability to relate their technical expertise to the economic side of the industry.

Article Abstract:
The effect of changes in work due to global competition and demanding customer requirements on the engineering profession in the UK has been significant. The shifts in employment from permanent to temporary and a reduction in trade union memberships also affected the engineering companies. The Engineering Employer's Federation has created a programme to cope with these changes. The program's focus is on developing the employees' understanding of the objective of the company and his contributions and ability to do the job effectively.

Engineering education set for major overhaul
Article Abstract:
A report from the The Royal Academy of Engineering stated that the need for more engineers to accommodate present and future needs of the employment market requires a complete overhaul of engineering education. Senior engineers stated that engineering education should give greater focus to communication and business skills. They called for the creation of two types of courses, one that would specialize in product development skills and one with greater focus on mathematics, engineering theory and communication skills.
