Tax fears squeeze out spending pledges

Britain's Labor Party, the likely winner in the upcoming elections, promised to increase moral and financial support for science, and undo a laboratory review process instituted by the Conservatives. Labor did not, however, promise any specific funding, to avoid a voter panic about tax hikes.

U.K. labs: a year of uncertainty
Article Abstract:
The Conservative government has plans to close or merge most publically owned labs in the UK, but has not yet decided how to proceed. Critics condemn the ordering of more reviews of the plans, charging that they demoralize scientists and hurt science.
