Telomeres, telomerase and cancer
Article Abstract:
Telomerase, an enzyme than lengthens telomeres, may be used to treat cancer. Telomerase is made mostly of protein, but it also has one RNA molecule. It is present in some cancers, but not in many normal cells, which means that drugs that harm it may be able to kill cancer cells but not normal ones.
