The big dig's Big Dig
Article Abstract:
This article describes the challenging tunnel engineering project undertaken in the construction of Boston's "Big Dig" officially called the Central Artery/Tunnel Project (CA/T project). This complex infrastructure project in American history involved the tunnel jacking work from beaneath operaing rail tracks and construction of three highway tunnels under the worst ground conditions. The excavations required the development of innovative wall and bracing systems.

High-profile tunneling
Article Abstract:
This article discusses the restoration plans for the Peruvian andes following destruction of the hydroelectric power plant and debris collection from the floods. Design and construction of a high-profile tunnel from the right side of the valley through rock face into the river and then through rock on the opposite side of the valley to a reception shaft is described.

Freeway extension in Los Angeles awaits tunneling technology breakthroughs

The largest diameter tunnel in North America is planned to be built by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority of Los Angeles County in order to provide a freeway to the commuters. Details of the two tunneling techniques intended to be used for the proposed project are presented.
