Home computers have always frustrated their users by becoming obsolete after a few years even though they cost an average of $2000. Network computers, or NCs, might change all that. They are projected to cost $500 and have no hard disks or CD-ROM drives. Instead, they directly access the Internet.

The plan of the US government to improve the information technology in the classrooms by the year 2000 is farfetched. The integration of computers in the classrooms would require an increased budget, which most of the schools are incapable of providing.
