Artificial life is the study and creation of human-designed organisms that have the ability to reproduce and evolve into another form. This study and creation will take place primarily by way of computers. A conference on artificial life, organized by Christopher Langton, is discussed.

Scientists have adopted novel methods for the development of artificial intelligence. Doug Lenat teaches a computer called Cyc two million commonsense words to simulate human learning. On the other hand, Rodney Brooks developed a robot that learns by using its human-like senses.
