Tobacco-industry support of basic research is increasing as overall funding is drying up, fueling a debate on possible conflicts of interest across the world of science. Young researchers obtain employment, supposedly without strings attached, but many institutions have banned tobacco-backed research.

Reports bolster viral cause of KS
Article Abstract:
Researchers Yuan Chang, Patrick Moore and their colleagues have provided convincing evidence that a new herpesvirus causes Kaposi sarcoma (KS), a skin disease common among HIV-infected gay men. Their research does not determine why KS in AIDS patients is almost always confined to gay men.
