Tunnel revision: CFD has not yet replaced wind tunnel testing in Formula One design
Article Abstract:
Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has been important in improving the performance of Grand Prix cars since the early 1990s, although it is still supplemented by wind tunnel testing. CFD can transform the capability of race car construction as designers can undertake more testing options during the design. CFD is used as an early design analysis tool and typical applications include analysis of rear wing assembly, cooling systems and even the whole race car. However it is unlikely that CFD will completely replace the wind tunnel in the near future.

Knowing the ropes
Article Abstract:
Significant advances have been made in manufacturing manmade rope fibres for industry. Synthetic ropes have more flexibility, strength and adaptability than alternative products made out of materials such as wire and steel. Rope products from manufacturers Allied Chemicals and DSM use high molecular density polyethylene (HMPE) materials. HMPE products are strong but prone to stretching.
