Controversy surrounds the California state legislature's decision to give the UC's Tobacco-Related Disease Research Program $60.4 million in funding obtained from a cigarette tax. University officials believe that approval of the spending plan by the Dept of Finance will hinder academic freedom.

Researchers broaden the attack on Parkinson's disease
Article Abstract:
Two new research reports suggest strategies to improve neuronal transplants in the treatment of Parkinson's disease and to reduce the amount of fetal tissue needed for transplants. Two other projects are researching the use of growth factor injections to prevent neuron death.
