U.S. and Europe close in on LHC deal
Article Abstract:
US and European physicists will be able to collaborate if the proposed Large Hadron Collider accelerator is built at CERN, in Switzerland. The projected starting date is 1998. The National Science Foundation and the Department of Energy are among the US organizations providing funding for the project.

NIF ignites changes at Livermore
Article Abstract:
The Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, once seemingly on its way to extinction following the nuclear-testing ban, has been rejuvenated by its stewardship of the nation's nuclear stockpile. This effort will be directed primarily through its new National Ignition Facility.
