U.S. tells CERN to wait for support
Article Abstract:
The US has put off CERN's request for a $300 million contribution to help build the Large Haldron Collider. Department of Energy officials asserted that such a decision must wait until after the budget is finalized. House Science Committee Chmn Robert Walker also claimed it was too early to make a decision.

Report takes aim at 50 new projects

Chmn George Brown of the House Science Committee released a report on 50 academic projects that had been earmarked for funds by congressional appropriations committees. He has derided the practice as undermining government science policy.

CERN's LHC gets the go-ahead
Article Abstract:
CERN has authorized the construction of the LHC in an existing tunnel that houses the Large Electron-Positron Collider. Building the particle accelerator will necessitate cuts in CERN's budget and will take longer than originally planned.
