Hemoglobin reveals new role as blood pressure regulator
Article Abstract:
A Duke Univ team found that hemoglobin carries a form of nitric acid from the lungs to the arteries to help stabilize blood pressure, along with its other functions of transporting oxygen and carbon dioxide. The research builds on team leader Jonathan Stamler's research on S-nitrosothiols (SNOs).

Unruly sun emerges in solar observatory's first results
Article Abstract:
The Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) reveals a highly active solar atmosphere and surface layers. Researchers expected solar activity to be low, but instead found evidence of turbulent gases and magnetic field lines. Theorists may be affected by the discovery of shallow convection cells.

Gas clouds may be relics of creation
Article Abstract:
Gas clouds which have been assumed to be relics of supernovae within the Milky Way could be actually much further away, and thud much larger. A new simulations model by astronomer Leo Blitz et al suggests that the clouds are remnants of the primordial gas that formed the Local Group of galaxies.
