Article Abstract:
The 104th Congress of the US,in its first three months, passed two laws and the Senate revised many other bills included in the House Republicans Contract with America. The US Senate passed the Attorney Accountability Act which sets higher standards for the admissibility of scientific evidence in federal courts. A five-year, $189 billion tax-cut bill is being considered by the House but a deep division among the congressional Republican majority is revealed by the bill. The tax bill created trouble due to the proposal of child tax credit-reduction.

Infrastructure plans proliferate
Article Abstract:
The combination of the recession and election-year politics has created a fertile environment for proposals to jump-start the economy. Several Capitol Hill leaders have been stressing increased federal investments in public works infrastructure as they are emboldened by a number of economists who contend that increased public investment in education and public works would provide a bigger boost to the economy than a tax cut. However, final details on this development are still difficult to predict.

Development decision soon on Arctic Wildlife Refuge?
Article Abstract:
The issue of allowing oil and gas exploration in the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge has become crucial in the U.S. Congress. The environmentalists may have trouble maintaining the status quo. The future of 1.5 mil acres, 8% of the park, is at stake. This area may be opened up for oil exploration. Republicans are trying to link this issue to the budget reconcilation bill.
