Dually incontinent nursing home residents: clinical characteristics and treatment differences
Article Abstract:
Clinical characteristics and treatment differences for 413 nursing home residents having urinary incontinence (UI) and fecal incontinence have been studied using a retrospective chart review. This kind of incontinence in the study subjects was found to be likely to have an important functional component, that is, cognition impaired or lacking normal mobility, and the residents seem to be treated less aggressively with hospitalization vs those with UI only. Reasons should be further investigated.

The prognostic value of serum albumin in healthy older persons with low and high serum interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels
Article Abstract:
A case-cohort study was carried out in healthy, nondisabled older persons who had serum albumin and plasma interleukin-6 (IL-6) measured at baseline and crude and multiply adjusted proportional hazards models were used to find the effect of the baseline levels on 4-year mortality in those with higher and lower levels. It was found that high serum albumin has a protective effect in those healthy older persons who have no evidence of cytokine-mediated inflammation. The study included 461 survivors and 171 who died in the 4 years.

Atrial natriuretic peptide levels in geriatric patients with nocturia and nursing home residents with nighttime incontinence
Article Abstract:
Atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) levels have been studied in geriatric patients with nocturia and nursing home residents with night incontinence using case series for 54 nursing home residents and 26 board-and-care residents with mean age 86. ANP levels were elevated but greater urine production at night was not associated with higher levels.
