Binocular vision in older people with adventitious visual impairment: sometimes one eye is better than two
Article Abstract:
A study has been carried out in 59 adults aged 50-96, 49 of whom had age-related macular degeneration (AMD). In almost half of those with AMD, sensitivty to spatial information, as measured by spatial contrast sensitivity is worse when both eyes are used than when the stimuli are seen with one eye only. Almost half of the older people with AMD see better by using one eye.

Chiropractic care for patients aged 55 years and older: report from a practice-based research program
Article Abstract:
An observational, practice-based research study has been carried out in 96 chiropractic offices of the US and Canada to characterize patients aged 54+ years and to find out about the care given to them. It was concluded that more investigation of the pain disability index (PDI) and decrease in pain medication use as outcome measures appears to be justified. Those with higher PDI mean baseline scores had more change at 4 weeks. Subjects numbered 805 and were in 32 states and two provinces of Canada.

Subcutaneous fluid infusion in a long-term care setting
Article Abstract:
Subcutaneous fluid infusion is discussed relative to use in a long-term care setting. A prospective observation study was carried out over 5 weeks. Hypodermoclysis was found to be an effective procedure for giving fluids for chronic maintenance needs and acute situations associated with mild to moderate dehydration in this setting. It is apparently safer than intravenous fluid treatment for the same situation and makes hospital transfer unnecessary.
