Effect of enalapril and nifedipine on orthostatic hypotension in older hypertensive patients
Article Abstract:
Effects of nifedipine and enalapril on orthostatic hypotension have been investigated in 39 older hypertensive patients with the finding that enalapril lowered the number of orthostatic episodes significantly, but that nifedipine aggravated the situation. The two were equipotent in reducing supine blood pressure.

The C677t mutation in the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene and vascular dementia
Article Abstract:
Vascular dementia (VD) and its relationship to the C677t mutation in the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene are discussed based on study in Ashkenazi Jews and other Jews, the total numbering 259, all above age 70. The MTHFR C677T was found not to be associated with increased VD or Alzheimer's disease risk. The mutation is significantly more frequent in the Ashkenazi vs other Jews.

Intraindividual variability in orthostatic blood pressure changes among older adults: the influence of meals
Article Abstract:
Variability in orthostatic blood pressure (BP) changes related to meals in a given subject has been studied using a prevalence study of BP changes in response to orthostasis among 126 older adults in France. Findings show diagnosis of orthostatic hypotension (OH) should not be based on one measurement because of variability of postural BP changes. Testing should be repeated preferably under circumstances like those in the symptoms occur. The postprandial period is not very favorable to OH. A meal does not make BP changes worse in most aged people.
