Mild cognitive impairment: potential pharmacological treatment options
Article Abstract:
Potential pharmacological treatment options for mild cognitive impairment in the elderly are discussed. Only treatments evaluated in nondemented populations are considered. There are perhaps implications for Alzheimer's disease. Morphological and neurochemical changes in the aging brain are discussed relative to the types of pharmacological interventions. Types of memory decline seen in older people and diagnostic criteria are reviewed.

Cognitive decline is associated with systemic oxidative stress: The EVA study
Article Abstract:
Results of the Etude du Vieillissement Arteriel (EVA) study, a longitudinal population-based study starting with 1,166 subjects functioning at a high level and following up 4 years later suggest that elevated levels of oxidative stress and/or antioxidant deficiencies may constitute risk factors for cognitive decline. The study is related to the free radical theory of aging and the use of vitamin E and other antioxidants. More study is needed to look at direct implications of oxidative stress in vascular and neurodegenerative mechanisms that lead to cognitive decline.

Subjective cognitive complaints and cognitive decline: consequence or predictor? The epidemiology of vascular aging study
Article Abstract:
A study showing that elderly patients who complained more about cognitive problems when younger were more likely to develop cognitive defects and dementia at a later stage is presented. For the purpose epidemiology of vascular aging was conducted at periodic intervals using magnetic resonance imaging on patients in the age group of 59 to 71.
