A morphology of Japanese and European corporate research networks
Article Abstract:
Japanese and European pharmaceutical, chemical and electronics companies were engaged in research collaboration in 1980, 1984 and 1989. Results indicate that the nature and method of scientific research of Japanese and European firms were similar. Findings further suggest that pharmaceutical and electronics companies became more specialized in their research during the 1980s. However, unlike their Japanese counterparts, European companies were more aggressive in their pursuit of R&D efficiency and technical opportunities through research collaboration during the 1980s.
