Mobilizing for sexual rights: report from the SIECUS public policy office
Article Abstract:
Sexualrights may enjoy a new resurgence at the federal level under the Clinton administration. President-elect Bill Clinton has repeatedly voiced out his approval for sex education and support for the rights of gays and lesbians. He has also declared support for the Freedom of Choice Act as well as for increased funding and support for HIV/AIDS prevention programs without moralistic restrictions. State and local referenda results also indicate victories for sexual rights although losses were costly. Moreover, far right organizations have stated that they will push their efforts even harder due to the election results.

"Change is in the air." (public policy)
Article Abstract:
Bill Clinton's executive orders shortly after taking office included a number of pro-choice measures but not his campaign promise to lift the ban on gays in the military. This issue has been controversial largely because of false perceptions of gays. Military leaders are concerned that gays will harass other military personnel, cost more, spread AIDS and undermine morale. However, gays have been harassed in the military not the reverse, AIDS is spread by anyone, the army will save money by not investigating gays and a poll showed 45% of Americans support gays in the military.
