Relations among corporal punishment, perceived parental acceptance, and psychological adjustment in Jamaican youths
Article Abstract:
An ethnocultural research studied relationships among perceived parental justness and harshness of corporal punishment, perceived parental acceptance-rejection and psychological adjustment of Jamaican youths. Results suggested that harshness of parental punishment by itself had little effect on variations in youths' psychological adjustment, but harsher punishment was seen as increased rejection by the youth, which resulted in greater impairment of their psychological adjustment.

Article Abstract:
Relations among corporal punishment, perceived parental acceptance, and psychological adjustment were explored in Turkish youths between 10 and 18 years of age. It was concluded that apparent relations between parental punishment and youths' psychological adjustment were almost totally mediated by youths' perceptions of parental acceptance, irrespective of the youths' gender or age with regard to either perceived parental acceptance or punishment.
