Russia's internal border
Article Abstract:
The existence of an internal border in Russia, which separates the Red Belt area from the main land, may explain the inter-city price differences in the former communist country. The areas included within the boundaries of the Red Belt region do not only exhibit massive geographical isolation but also manifest a high level of price dispersion. This may be accounted for the inability of these areas to adapt efficiently with economic reforms.
