Toward a general-equilibrium theory of a core-periphery system of cities
Article Abstract:
A general-equilibrium spatial model of a core-periphery system of cities which allows for labor heterogeneity was developed to determine the factors that give rise to the core-periphery structure of demographic, economic and income disparity trends. The results show that the equilibrium configuration is characterized by a core producing only high-technology products and a periphery that produces only food products. Search-and-match, transportation cost and city formation cost parameters are mainly responsible for income disparity between the core and periphery regions.

Spatial agglomeration and endogenous growth
Article Abstract:
A dynamic general equilibrium model is used to show the workings of urbanization during regional economic growth. The increase in city size relies on both centripetal and centrifugal factors. An example of the former is the benefit accruing from human capital agglomeration while the cost of transportation is a typical centrifugal force that constrains unbounded growth. A monocentric city is found to come up with more socially optimal growth rates than one that has a decentralized investment structure.

Agglomeration in a linear city with heterogeneous households
Article Abstract:
A general equilibrium model is presented to generate an agglomerate city without the assumption of increasing returns, positive externalities, or market imperfections. The pure-exchange, two-region, linear city model draws on the structure of Solow and Vickery, and creates the inventive for interregional trade through hetergeneity in regional prefences and commodity endowments. The model is characterized as a neoclassical interpretation of Ricardian trade theory.
