A comparison of three "interventions" on pretreatment dropout rates in an outpatient substance abuse clinic

Article Abstract:

Client show rates in outpatient substance abuse clinics can be boosted by scheduling the intake appointment within 48 hours of the telephone intake interview. Show rates are not improved by making a 24-hour reminder phone call or by sending an appointment card and clinic brochure by post. Participants scheduled within 48 hours of calling the clinic did not differ in the number of treatment sessions received. There are benefits associated with regarding early dropout as a clinic problem, rather than a client problem.

The relationship between pre-, during-, post-treatment factors, and adolescent substance abuse behaviors

Article Abstract:

Data from the Comprehensive and Treatment Outcome Research in St. Paul, MN, were examined to elucidate the relationship between pre-, during-, post-treatment parameters and adolescent substance abuse tendencies. The results of the discriminant function analyses revealed that during- and post-treatment parameters can affect the level of abstinence at six and 12-month check-ups. Post-treatment parameters were also the most accurate among the parameters examined for all check-up periods studied.
