Don Gottfredson is a man of importance in the field of criminal justice. His studies on criminal justice have been used as basis for sentencing guidelines, offender rehabilitation and justice administration for juvenile offenders. His leadership has also propelled the success of Research of the National Council on Crime and Delinquency, Conference of Doctors of Criminological Research Institutes of America and American Society of Criminology. His duties as teacher and dean at the Rutgers University School of Criminal Justice have also helped cultivate scholarship in criminal justice further.

Discovering criminal justice with Don M. Gottfredson
Article Abstract:
Don M. Gottfredson is a very important person in the field of criminal justice. One of his most significant contributions is the result of his pioneering effort to make decision-making in criminal justice more rational by advocating reliance on more information. The offshoot of this is the use of sentencing and parole guidelines in criminal justice systems. A soft-spoken and friendly person with a pleasing personality, he is also a source of inspiration for students at the School of Criminal Justice at Rutgers University, where he served as dean and teacher.

Tribute to Don Gottfredson, former director of Research of the National Council on Crime and Delinquency
Article Abstract:
Social science researcher Don Gottfredson is crucial to the success of the National Council on Crime and Delinquency (NCCD). He served as the first director of the advocacy group when it was just a newly formed organization in 1965. Under his tutelage, program and management problems arising from changes being implemented to the NCCD were dealt with effectively. It was under his leadership that the NCCD developed the needed ties with criminal justice researchers and university officials.
