A study of the structural risk factors of homelessness in 52 metropolitan areas in the United States
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted focusing the relationship between structural risk factors and the homelessness in the United States, using multiple regression analysis to examine the significance of each factor for predicting the rate of homelessness. It is found that an overall elevated poverty level is a structural condition that leads to high level of homelessness in an area and few suggestions to tackle this problem are availability of jobs with decent wage levels, suitable cash assistance programme, and provision of multi-services.

Civil society's role in promoting local development in countries in transition: A comparative study of the Philippines and Romania
Article Abstract:
Civil society's role in the process of local development undertaken by countries in their transition toward democracy is discussed, comparing the experiences of the Philippines and Romania. The limits and possibilities offered by the democratization process are highlighted in terms of how civil-society organizations can participate more meaningfully in local development and in establishing structures of democracy.
