AIDS: a problem for sociological research
Article Abstract:
Response to AIDS among sociological researchers began late and has been inadequate, but the problem has stimulated new methodological approaches and resulted in significant advances in empirical knowledge. Research has tended to focus on sexuality, addiction and homosexuality rather than the traditional sociology of disease. Issues highlighted in this trend report include social representations, public attitudes, sociological aspects of prevention and care, patients' coping with the disease and sexual behavior. A cognitive map of sociological research on AIDS is included.
