Analysis of contraceptive discontinuation in six developing countries from durations of use at survey
Article Abstract:
A cross-national study of contraceptive discontinuation amongst married nonsterilized women in Egypt, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Bolivia, Zimbabwe and Thailand was undertaken, based on the Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS). Two approaximation techniques were used, local linear regression smoothing of a histogram estimate of use time at survey, and a proportional hazards Weibull distribution for the discontinuation probability function.

Selection intensities and consanguineity in the Yadava and Vadabalija of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India
Article Abstract:
Natural selection in two castes of India occurs more through mortality than through variations in fertility among closely related, or consanguineous groups. The mortality could be explained by environmental, cultural, socioeconomic and genetic factors. The two castes are economically backward with different occupations: fishing and pastoral. The fishing caste has a higher level of mortality selection than the pastoral caste.
