Are inner-cities bad for your health? Comparisons of residents' and third parties' perceptions of the urban neighbourhood of Gospel Oak, London
Article Abstract:
Third parties' descriptions of London, England's Gospel Oak neighborhood were found to be significantly less positive than those provided by Gospel Oak residents. The role of negative perceptions in attempts to secure regeneration funding, and the potential negative impacts of these perceptions (such as stigmatization) are discussed.

The practice of medical technology

Sociological research on medical technologies published in the Sociology of Health and Illness in last 25 years, is studied. It is argued that the next rational move is to travel beyond the criticism though technology in medical practice is criticized by social scientists.

An examination is presented on management and physician autonomy in the Netherlands' health insurance industry. It is posited that standardization, rather than threatening professional autonomy, enhances it by legitimizing the physician's role as a professional.
