Asian Indian Americans in the Bay Area and the glass ceiling
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the employment discrimination experiences of college educated Asian Indian Americans in the San Francisco Bay Area. Experiences of discrimination were predicted using theoretical assumptions based on labor market structures, human capital, assimilation, size discrimination and cost of race perspectives. Results show that educated Asian Indian American males encounter difficulties in rising to management posts. Results also reveal that Asian Indian American females are discriminated upon in terms of career advancement and compensation.

A Fifty-Year Perspective on the Declining Significance of Race in the Occupational Attainment of White and Black Men
Article Abstract:
There is a dearth of systematic empirical evidence to analyze William J. Wilson's controversial 1980 study 'The Declining Significance of Race' and test his hypothesis of the decreasing importance of ethnicity in labor market outcomes. A study was therefore conducted to furnish empirical evidence to improve the understanding of the extent to which black men are disadvantaged in the labor market and to gauge the degree to which this disadvantage may have changed during the 1900s.
