Attribution and the effects of expectancy: how beliefs can influence the experiences of smoking cessation
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that cognitive therapy may be useful in altering patients' expectations regarding their tobacco abstinence experiences during smoking cessation treatment. Patients who had negative experiences were more likely to attribute them to abstinence. Emphasizing the positive aspects of smoking cessation is recommended.

Replication of subtypes for smoking cessation within the Preparation stage of change
Article Abstract:
Four cluster subtypes were found for smoking behaviors: Classic, Progressing, Early Preparation, and Disengaged. Implications for intervention are discussed.
