Chemical weapons and the gulf war; the dog that did not bark
Article Abstract:
Several critical factors may have prevented Iraq from using chemical weapons (CW) against the Allied coalition during the Persian Gulf war. Iraqi Pres Saddam Hussein could have foreseen that any attack using CW directed either at the coalition or Israel would result in massive Allied retaliation. Furthermore, the use of CW would have no beneficial military impact as the Allies were protected by chemical detectors and CW-resistant suits.

Terrorism and weapons of mass destruction: the case of Aum Shinrikyo
Article Abstract:
Three books examined the terrorist use of weapons of mass destruction as it correlates with Aum Shinrikyo, a Japanese doomsday cult that carried out a nerve gas attack on the Tokyo subway system. Each book features a different perspective on the doomsday cult. Lessons that can be concluded from the use of such weapons were presented. In addition, efforts to suppress the organization by the Japanese government were discussed.

Strategic nuclear weapons: a force for the post-cold war world
Article Abstract:
US intercontinental ballistic missile forces should be dismantled since they lack strategic value. A post-cold war US strategic nuclear force is proposed instead. It is also argued that US security will be harnessed in the 21st century with the nuclear cooperation of Russia and the US. It is demonstrated that the US nuclear strategy does not result in a changed world and belongs to a past era.
