Curbing immigration may cut health care in some parts of U.S
Article Abstract:
An immigration bill introduced by Republican Sen. Alan Simpson could have negative effects on health care in some parts of the US. The bill seeks to impose a number of restrictions on both legal and illegal immigration. These include requiring employers to pay a certain fee for each foreign recruit. However, many health care institutions rely on foreigners to perform jobs that Americans are often unwilling to accept. If the Simpson bill becomes a law, the recruitment capabilities of such institutions would be severely threatened.

Welcoming the stranger: a reflection on the current immigration debate
Article Abstract:
The National Conference of Catholic Bishops believes that the passage of California's Proposition 187 is unfair to the state's immigrants and refugees. Proposition 187 deprives undocumented immigrants and refugees the right to health care, social service and educational benefits. It also empowers health care and education personnel to assume the role of immigration agents. Much debate surrounds the controversial law.
