Childhood sexual abuse and the academic adjustment of college women
Article Abstract:
The effect of child sexual abuse (CSA) onacademic adjustment in college is studied. The scholastic achievements of female college students who have been victims of CSA are compared against those who have not been victims. Results of the study show that CSA victims do not differ against non-victims in the overall grade point averages and in the probability ofstaying in college and earning a degree. However, inasmuch as the study did notuncover any major findings, it cannot be said with finality that CSA does not have a long-term effect on academic achievement.

PTSD as a mediator between childhood rape and alcohol use in adult women
Article Abstract:
The relationship between childhood sexual abuse and alcohol use among women is analyzed using symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). 4,009 women with ages ranging from 18 to 89 were interviewed for this study. Results show that the alcohol abuse symptoms experienced during adulthood significantly increased among women who were raped during childhood. PTSD symptomatology can therefore be considered as a determinant of alcohol abuse pattern.
