Choose your poison: effects of lay beliefs about mental processes on attitude change
Article Abstract:
The role of persuasive messages in shaping the attitudes of social perceivers was investigated. Experiments were conducted to test whether most people's theories about the power of consciously perceived and subliminal communications are incorrect, leading them to make misinformed choices on which type of message to receive. Results showed that people's beliefs about the effectiveness of persuasive communications are indeed inaccurate most of the time and that even ordinary persuasive messages may be difficult to resist.

"How happy was i, anyway?" A retrospective impact bias
Article Abstract:
A study of the U.S. presidential election of 2000 to examine the retrospective impact bias on people's predicted, actual and recalled happiness after emotional events is presented. The results show that the retrospective impact bias for positive events was strong and consistent whereas for negative events it depended on the extent of rationalization of negative events at the time of recall.
